Alex Miller Counselling
A confidential space to explore your thoughts and feelings, and the challenges in your life
I am a fully qualified, experienced counsellor and psychotherapist and a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I work with individuals on a short and long-term basis within a safe, supportive, non-judgemental, and confidential space. Alongside my private practice I work in the charity sector, offering counselling for a diverse range of issues within the local community.
My practice is based on the understanding that we develop our sense of who we are, our beliefs and expectations, through our earliest relationships and experiences. In childhood we develop strategies to get our needs met, stay safe, and survive. Sometimes, in adulthood, these strategies no longer serve us well and can prevent us from living authentic, fulfilling lives. Whilst not about blame, understanding these patterns helps to clarify what is happening today and develops self-awareness, self-compassion, choice and empowerment leading to improved emotional well-being.

Counselling takes place in a safe space, where you can talk with someone who will listen with sensitivity and empathy - and without judgement. In the therapy space thoughts and feelings can be expressed freely and in confidence.
Trouble with a relationship; anxiety or panic attacks; mood swings or depression - many people face difficulties in their everyday lives that can be hard to get on top of. Counselling gives us a set of tools we can use to help gain a better understanding of what’s causing these problems - and how you can move towards managing or resolving them.
Working together I can help you gain greater insight into the difficulties you are facing, help you understand why you act or react to them the way you do, and see how you can start to make better, heathier choices moving forward.
I am based in Guildford, Surrey and I work with clients in Surrey and the surrounding areas of London, Hampshire, Berkshire and Sussex.
In addition to providing face-to-face therapy, I also offer telephone counselling and online sessions for clients in the greater Surrey area and beyond via Zoom. Contact me to find out more about how online therapy works.
I currently only have availability for online/telephone based sessions.
The relationship you develop with your therapist is a significant factor in an effective therapeutic outcome. It is important you find someone you feel you can work with, and I offer a free 30-minute consultation (telephone). If you feel I am not the right fit for you, that’s okay, and I may be able to suggest alternative support. It can take a lot of courage to make the first step and I want to ensure it is a really positive one.
Sessions last 50 minutes and usually take place on a weekly basis. I charge £60 per session. I offer concessionary rates for students and those on a low income but spaces are limited and subject to availability.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about how counselling works, or to arrange an initial assessment appointment. This enables us to discuss the reasons you are thinking of coming to counselling, whether it could be helpful for you and whether I am the right therapist to help.
All enquires are usually answered within 24 hours, and all contact is strictly confidential and uses secure phone and email services. Find out more by reading my Privacy Policy.
